Delphine Planas
Can you share a little about yourself and your research?
I am Delphine Planas, an INSERM researcher working at the Institut Pasteur in Olivier Schwartz’s unit and in the Infection, Antimicrobials, Modelling and Evolution Unit.
My research focuses on respiratory viruses and their interactions with the respiratory tract, with a particular interest in how the complexity of the epithelium and its constant exposure to the environment influence viral replication and the cytopathology of respiratory infections.
I am fascinated by the ability of viruses to counteract or exploit cellular functions to promote their own replication. This complexity sometimes goes beyond our current understanding of biological processes, which is precisely what interests me most.
How does your research fit into the bigger picture of Durable?
The DURABLE consortium brings together experts from a wide range of disciplines to tackle complex scientific questions. My work aligns with the consortium’s broader goal of building a more integrated understanding of emerging viral threats. It also offers a valuable opportunity to contribute to a collective European scientific effort.
What do I expect to accomplish in the coming years within my own institute and through my connection to Durable?
In the coming years, I hope to connect fundamental virology with translational questions relevant to the prevention of severe respiratory infections. Within my institute, I aim to deepen our understanding of how respiratory viruses interact with the airway epithelium and how environmental factors shape infection outcomes. Being connected to DURABLE offers the opportunity to contribute to collaborative projects, broaden the scope of my research, and integrate my work into a wider multidisciplinary effort.
